Unfortunately, the people here would rather see the animals remain in cages than a chance at a happy life. Don't bother trying to adopt here unless your a couple who won the lottery. They will turn you down solely for having a job, even if you work at home most days a week and arrange to take the animal to work with you on office days. Their excuse? 'It would be bad for the puppy to change location so often'. Not hard to see why they have so many depressed looking animals in their cages.

I am an advocate for getting your pet from a rescue of some kind but I suggest staying away from Briggs. They are rude, opaque and not honest about what they are doing. We were told that that we were not a good fit for the first dog we asked about because of not having a six foot fence. Then we were told that none were a good match because we had a cat (really?! EVERY dog there is so bad with cats they can't be around them?).

Then the "counselor " said they didn't have many dogs at the time! Almost all kennels had at least 1 dog in them, they were almost full. Every other rescue I have been to had way less at any given time, all were no kill shelters too. They say they are simply trying to find a " best match" whatever that means, but they clearly would rather have dogs spend a major portion of their life in a kennel than be reasonable or at the very least honest.

It's not like they do any better than other places: multiple dogs there had been returned by adoptees, meaning their stringent standards didn't even work. My message to Briggs: get off your high horse and actually care about the well-being of the animals.

I had to make numerous attempts to contact the shelter to inquire about dog listed, after filling out their documentation. I eventually received a short response "won't do good in home with cat." When I asked follow up questions, again no response. This is likley why their pets stay at the shelter for so long instead of getting adopted to good homes. If you could pick 0 stars, that would be more accurate!

Briggs is an absolutely awesome rescue. They put the needs of the animal first and foremost. The center is well run and again, has the health and ultimate well-being of dogs and cats within in mind as their primary charge. We adopted out American Bulldog mix from there last summer. Please review their adoption posted policies if you think that you'll be walking in and then back out with either a dog or cat in 30 minutes.

You will not. They will ask you to fill out an application to see a particular animal (if you haven't before showing up). They will check your history with your vet (if you've had pets before). They will assure that you do not have a bad history with animals. They will drop the dog/cat off at your residence after everything clears. They are a true rescue and not in the pet store business. They are about placing animals (some with very traumatic pasts) in homes where there is a good fit for both the animal and you.

Went with my two sons to see the animals for adoption. The parking area is easy to get into and completely flat (so would work well for a handicapped individual). The main area was set up nicely with a large welcoming desk and staff person. We signed in and were provided a tour by another very welcoming staff person. The dog area was clean and the rooms for each dog had a glass paned door so you could easily see inside.

This door also softened the noise level which is a huge plus for anyone with sound sensitivities. There was a staff person cleaning the dog area while we're were there and he was very considerate of our visit. The cat area is wide and open with ledges and a huge cat climbing gym in the middle. There were cats in closed off rooms and a screened in cat porch.

It was very clean as well. We have allergies and weren't triggered once. The staff in the cat area was pleasant and I was pleased to see an alert posted about cats that may scratch. Very helpful. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit and would definitely go back to adopt.

The entire staff of this beautiful oasis for animal souls is very friendly, loving, honest, hard-working, and professional. From initial points of contact, throughout the entire adoption process, they will make you feel like you want to become a part of their family and mission. First class model of a how all shelters or temporary animal homing facilities should strive to be, until an animal can be successfully adopted into their forever homes Exemplary in their love and care of the animals prior to, and in the home-matching them with only the very best outcome of each animal at heart.

Friendly staff and beautiful environment! We adopted our pup at 3 months old and he is the sweets little thing even now at 10 months! The adoption process took less then a week and it was a smooth transition for our pup. Our boys love Kylo and he sure loves us!

I got my sweet puppies Bella and Spike from Briggs and they were so professional and understanding, they worked with me so I could get both of my babies! They even delivered them to me!

If you are looking to add a new furry member to your family, then I HIGHLY recommend adopting from the Briggs Animal Adoption Center. I am never one to write reviews; however, my experience in adopting my new little kitten Archie (formerly "Snuffles") deserves to be shared. First, the facilities were wonderful--extremely clean, a lot of space, and such friendly staff members that were there and happy to help with a big smile every step of the way.

One of the biggest things that stood out to me was how they had a designated kitten room, which was right beside an even larger adult cat room (which had indoor and enclosed outdoor space) with not a single cage in sight! The kittens and cats weren't kept in metal cages or small spaces--they were all happily mingling and playing with each other, and the volunteers/staff--with plenty of room to run around and have a high quality life while waiting to be adopted.

After arriving, I was asked to fill out fairly detailed and extensive application paperwork which, again, was a positive. The paperwork and staff both emphasized, multiple times, that their priority is to make sure each animal is matched with the family that is best suited for the animal. And I think that is a really amazing policy and speaks volumes about how much they care and put the animals and their wellbeing first!

After completing the application, a wonderful staff member named Sylvia met me and reviewed my paperwork to ask any clarifying questions. She was so kind and thorough, while also being extremely knowledgeable in answering any/all questions I had. Sylvia then took me back to the "kitten room" where I got to play with some of the sweetest kittens I've ever met--all of them were so friendly and socialized. Sylvia explained that Archie and his siblings were rescued from a high-kill shelter and fostered until old enough to adopt.

It is clear that their foster did an incredible job raising and socializing all six kittens in his litter as they were all the sweetest and so playful. If you can't tell by this point, I just really had an all around fantastic experience and really do hope that you heed my advice and adopt from Briggs. Sylvia and all the other staff members--thank you for everything you did to unite little Archie and myself!

He is honestly the sweetest little nugget of love that just snuggles and purrs all day long! I am so grateful for you and your organization and have, and will continue, to recommend it to anyone I know that is looking to adopt in the area! Sending my love and gratitude! Matt
